NCC Orders Telecom Operators to Inform Consumers of Service Disruptions and Provide Compensation

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecom operators to promptly notify consumers of significant service disruptions through media platforms. The new directive mandates that affected customers receive proportional compensation, such as extensions of service validity, in line with the Consumer Code of Practice Regulations.

In a statement, Nnenna Ukoha, Acting Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, emphasized that operators must disclose the cause of outages, specify the affected areas, and provide an estimated timeline for service restoration. The move aims to enhance transparency and ensure consumer rights are protected during network disruptions.
