Major General Everest Okoro has assumed office as the 12th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, succeeding Major General Emmanuel Emekah. He also takes over as the Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force (South-South), Operation Delta Safe, following the recent redeployment of senior officers by the Nigerian Army.
During the handover ceremony, the outgoing GOC, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity to serve the nation. He commended officers and soldiers of the division for their discipline, loyalty, and professionalism, which he said contributed to the successes recorded during his tenure. Emekah noted that when he assumed office in January 2025, Nigeria’s daily crude oil production stood at about 1.3 million barrels per day but had increased to approximately 1.5 million barrels per day through the commitment of troops in protecting critical national assets. He urged personnel to extend the same cooperation to his successor and remain disciplined and committed to their responsibilities.
In his remarks, the new GOC, Major General Everest Okoro, thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment. He described Major General Emekah as an outstanding officer and mentor, congratulating him on a successful tenure. Okoro pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor by strengthening the protection of critical national infrastructure, sustaining the fight against crude oil theft, and supporting efforts to increase oil production for national economic growth. The ceremony featured the signing of handover notes, presentation of insignia, decoration with the divisional badge, presentation of the divisional flag, and a group photograph.
