Moroccan police have arrested a hotel employee in Casablanca over the alleged theft of cash belonging to members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The suspect was arrested following complaints from several players who reported that money had gone missing from their hotel rooms while the team was staying in Casablanca ahead of the tournament.
Authorities said the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime and is expected to return the stolen money. Police also recovered 10,000 Moroccan dirhams believed to be proceeds from the alleged theft.
Super Falcons midfielder Esther Okoronkwo had earlier disclosed that she and several teammates, including Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie and captain Rasheedat Ajibade, lost cash during the incident.
Despite the setback, the Super Falcons have continued their preparations for the tournament as they focus on their campaign in Morocco.
