Members of the disbanded Rivers State Traffic Management Agency, popularly known as TIMARIV, have threatened to stage a showdown against the state government. TIMARIV was disbanded on the orders of Governor NYESOM WIKE, barely a couple of weeks after he assumed office on the 29th of May this year. Workers of TIMARIV have remained jobless ever since, even though they were being owed a backlog of salary arrears, and all appeals to the State Government to reconsider the decision have fallen on deaf ears. Due to the continued neglect of their complaints; the disengaged TIMARIV officials have threatened to march on the streets of Port Harcourt, beginning from Monday next week. A spokesman for the group, DIDIA JOHN, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the disengaged TIMARIV personnel plan to occupy the Rivers State Government House until their demands are fulfilled. DIDIA JOHN said they would take lawful and pragmatic steps to ensure that their unpaid salaries of over ten months are cleared.
Correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the former TIMARIV members vowed to carry their wives, children and other relatives in the planned protest.
