Members of Taskforce on Illegal Street Trading arrested for extortion

 

One of the passengers of the commercial bus, Tudor Fubel who narrated the incident to our correspondent said the driver of the taskforce team accused the bus driver of wrong parking after which he demanded the sum of N20,000 as fine.

 

According to Fubel, the driver was encouraged to report the incident to the management of the taskforce after paying the money which led to their arrest.

 

 

The Camp Commandant, Rivers State Government House, S.P. Irikefe who also confirmed the arrest said the taskforce officials who allegedly committed the offence will be charge to court.

 

 

When contacted by our Correspondent Uchendu Ejiowhor, the Coordinator of the Taskforce on Illegal Street Trading, Felix Nwadibeyi, a retired Police Officer said the taskforce under his watch has zero tolerance to corruption and cautioned that any member who engage in sharp practices will be arrested and Prosecuted.
