Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that trouble started when the Minister of Labour and Employment, Doctor CHRIS NGIGE, was called to address the workers.
But instead of taking the stand, Doctor NGIGE who was seated among the dignitaries decided to delegate the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry to deliver his speech, which was resisted by the workers.
Our correspondent reports that the riot police returned with reinforcement armed with the water cannons, but the workers maintained their ground for a showdown.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the event, NGIGE announced that his ministry has completed the frame work for the tri-partied committee which is expected to start negotiation on the national minimum wage.
