Senate resumes plenary after workers day celebration.

You would recall that the Senate was told last week by the Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, Senator DANJUMA GOJE, that the Budget Report could not be submitted because the police carted away some relevant documents during a raid on his Abuja home last month.

Following the development; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator ITA ENANG, intervened and announced that the faceoff between the Senate and the Police had been resolved.

He also mentioned that all documents that the police removed from Senator GOJE’s home had been returned, suggesting that the Budget Report should be expected when the Senate resumes plenary.

However; our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports from the National Assembly that there is no mention of the 2017 Budget in the Senate Order Paper for today.

Instead, the Senate intends to revisit the list of twenty-seven nominees for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners, which was put on hold following the disagreement between the Senate and the Presidency over the fate of IBRAHIM MAGU as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Commission.

Also listed for consideration today is the Conference Committee Report on the Establishment Bill of the Nigerian Peace Corps.

A motion seeking to regularize the agreement between Nigeria and the United Kingdom on the transfer of prisoners will also receive the attention of the Senators.
