The Khana Local Government Traditional Rulers’ Council has commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in establishing the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoniland, as well as for appointing Professor Don Baridam as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council.
The council also expressed delight over the appointment of Emmanuel Deeyah, President of KAGOTE, as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HYPREP, along with other prominent sons and daughters from the Ogoni community occupying key national positions.
Rising from an extraordinary meeting held in Bori, the council, in a communiqué read by the Gbenemene of the Ancient Bangha Kingdom, King Dr. Baridam Suanu, described these appointments as positive steps toward empowering the Ogoni community and promoting inclusive governance.
King Suanu, who also serves as the Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Forum of African Traditional Authorities, condemned recent media attacks on some state leaders, including the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Emma Deeyah, and other prominent sons and daughters of Khana. He urged those involved in such campaigns to cease immediately, warning that the royal fathers would consider imposing sanctions on individuals who defy this directive.
In addition, the council congratulated Dr. Thomas Bariere on his election as Chairman of Khana Local Government, alongside the 19 newly elected councilors in the August 30 local government elections. The council called on the new leadership to govern inclusively and serve all residents of Khana, regardless of political affiliations.
