Howard Webb, Chief of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), has described the decision to disallow Josh King’s goal for Fulham in their recent defeat to Chelsea as a “misjudgement.”
The 18-year-old King scored in the 22nd minute, putting Fulham ahead before the goal was ultimately ruled out following a lengthy Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review. The disallowed goal was awarded for a foul during the build-up involving Rodrigo Muniz.
The VAR decision centered on an incident near the halfway line, where Muniz was accused of stepping on the foot of Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah while attempting to turn past him. Webb acknowledged that the decision was a mistake, emphasizing the need for accuracy in refereeing decisions.
