JOHESU Secretary, Doctor CHRIS MBATA made the call against the backdrop of reported new cases of Lassa fever.
MBATA expressed regret that blood samples from suspected cases in Rivers State are either taken to Warri and Lagos for screening.
The JOHESU Secretary, who spoke in an interview with correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA, called on the government to act fast in view of the speed at which the Lassa fever kills infected persons.
The Rivers State Chapter of the Joint Health Sector Union also advised the general public to regularly practice safe hygiene to avoid being infected with the Lassa virus.
