The Paramount Ruler of Iriebe Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Jeremiah Worenwu, has appealed to the state government to urgently intervene over alleged attacks by persons from the neighbouring Umuebule Community in Etche Local Government Area.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, Eze Worenwu said the boundary separating Iriebe and Umuebule communities was clearly established by traditional leaders more than 30 years ago.
The monarch alleged that armed intruders, led by one Tony Anele, have repeatedly invaded Iriebe Community, destroying properties worth millions of naira and rendering several families homeless.
He said despite the alleged provocations, residents of Iriebe have remained peaceful and law-abiding.
Eze Worenwu expressed concern that the alleged attacks have continued even as the Rivers State Boundary Commission, headed by the Deputy Governor, is working to resolve the boundary dispute. He called on the state government and security agencies to protect lives and property while the matter is being addressed.
Responding to the allegations, Eze Tony Anele denied any involvement in land grabbing, describing the claims as false and an attempt to tarnish his reputation. He insisted that the disputed land rightfully belongs to Umuebule Community.
