Opobo Kingdom Announces Coronation of New Monarch

Opobo Kingdom has announced the official coronation of His Majesty, King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja, Jeki VI, as the Amanyanabo and Treaty King of the kingdom.

In a statement, the Chief of Protocol and Public Relations of the Opobo Council of Alapu, Godwin Nengia Bupo, said the coronation ceremonies will take place from September 18 to September 27, 2026.

According to the statement, the event marks a significant milestone in the history of the kingdom, which was founded in 1870 by King Jaja of Opobo and is widely known for its rich trading heritage and enduring cultural traditions.

The statement noted that the ascension of King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja, Jeki VI, heralds a new chapter for the kingdom, with a strong emphasis on unity, cultural preservation, and economic development.

It further stated that the coronation programme will feature a series of cultural, spiritual, and ceremonial activities. Traditional rulers, government officials, business leaders, sons and daughters of Opobo Kingdom, as well as guests from across Nigeria and beyond, are expected to attend the historic event.
