The legal representatives of Pamo University of Medical Sciences have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, demanding the retraction of alleged defamatory statements and a public apology.
In a formal letter signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ayodeji Adedipe, counsel to the university, the institution refuted claims allegedly made by Amaewhule during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Act at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The Speaker had allegedly claimed that the university failed to account for previous allocations, ignored invitations from a House committee and was allocated six billion naira in the state budget.
However, the university’s legal representatives described the allegations as false and malicious, insisting that Pamo University was never invited by the House committee.
The letter further stated that the university has judiciously managed all state scholarship funds since its establishment.
The university is demanding an immediate retraction of the statements and a public apology within 24 hours.
It warned that failure to comply with the demand would result in the commencement of legal action against the Speaker.
