The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, has commended the resilience, patience, and cooperation of Rivers people as he prepares to step aside within the next 24 hours.
Speaking at a public lecture held as part of his exit programme, Ete-Ibas said the sacrifices made by citizens during the period of emergency rule played a crucial role in sustaining peace and order across the state. He described the imminent transition back to democratic governance as a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to work together in building a stronger and more accountable state.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike stressed the importance of inclusivity and genuine empowerment of citizens beyond monetary handouts. He also underscored the need for sustainable policies that prioritize innovation and agricultural development as key drivers of economic diversification and security.
The lecture, themed “Good Governance and Democratic Dividends,” drew participation from government officials, academics, civil society organizations, and traditional leaders, who reflected on lessons from the emergency administration and the path forward for democratic governance in Rivers State.
