Hearing resumes today at the National Assembly on the seizure of a memorial bus in honour of foremost Ogoni environmental rights activist, late KEN SARO-WIWA by the Nigeria Customs Service. The Coordinator of Ogoni Solidarity Forum, CELESTINE AKPOBAR is pushing for the release of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Memorial Bus through a committee of the House of Representatives. At his appearance before the committee last week, the lawmakers resolved to summon the Comptroller General of Customs, AHMED ALI, to explain the reason for impounding the memorabilia, which was shipped to Nigeria from London. The incident coincided with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the execution of the group of nine activists during the military administration of late General SANI ABACHA.The initial explanation given back then for the seizure of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Memorial Bus was that the non-motorized sculpture had a political value.
