Gunmen Attack NIPSS Again, Security Operatives Kill One Assailant

Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State, on Wednesday night repelled another attack by suspected gunmen, killing one of the assailants during a gun battle.

The attack was said to have occurred at about 11 p.m. when the gunmen attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter but were resisted by security personnel on duty. NIPSS, in a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Dr Osime Samuel, said the attackers were forced to retreat following a swift and coordinated response by security forces.

According to the institute, one of the assailants was killed during the exchange, while others escaped with varying degrees of injuries. It added that there was no breach of the security perimeter and that all participants, staff, residents and facilities within the institute remained safe.

The latest incident comes barely two weeks after another attack on the institute and its surrounding community in which three persons, including security personnel, were killed. NIPSS said security agencies had intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and strengthen surveillance around the institution.
