The protest was called under the umbrella of Concerned Nigerians, as the group stormed the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Chief among their concerns are the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and fraud in the foreign exchange market, which they claim was worsening the condition of already-impoverished Nigerian citizens.
The leader of the protesters; DEJI ADEYANJU, maintained that the CBN had been hijacked by the cronies of government, whom he accused of foreign exchange fraud.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the protesters wandered why government cronies should be getting foreign exchange at cheaper rates, while other Nigerians involved in legitimate business are forced to pay five hundred naira for one US Dollar.
Before leaving the CBN premises; the protesters promised to return if things do not improve, but did not specify how soon.
