Governor Fubara Returns to Port Harcourt After Emergency Rule

By Paul Chimodo

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has returned to Port Harcourt following the lifting of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State.

His flight landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, around 12:19 p.m. on Friday, where he was received by a large crowd of supporters.

The governor’s return comes a day after President Bola Tinubu ended the emergency rule that suspended democratic structures in the state. The period of emergency, which began in March, was triggered by political tensions between Fubara and the state House of Assembly.

Supporters had earlier gathered at the Government House expecting him but dispersed when he did not show up. Many regrouped at the airport to welcome him back.

With his reinstatement, both the governor and lawmakers are expected to resume their roles fully, as calls grow for reconciliation and a focus on governance.
