A political strategist and spokesperson for the Rivers Emancipation Movement, Zoe Solomon Tamunotonye, has raised concerns over what he described as the erosion of internal democracy within political parties in Nigeria, as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
He alleged that apart from the All Progressives Congress, most political parties have failed to uphold democratic principles in their internal processes, adding that grassroots participation has declined due to the influence of political godfathers.
He further accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike of allegedly sponsoring the purchase of nomination forms for their loyalists, a development he said has concentrated political power in the hands of a few influential actors.
