A fresh political crisis is looming in Rivers State following another impeachment notice issued by the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
Thursday’s notice marks the third impeachment move against Governor Fubara. Previous attempts were made on Monday, October 30, 2023, and Monday, March 17, 2025, heightening concerns over sustained political instability in the state.
The latest development has continued to generate reactions from stakeholders and residents across Port Harcourt. Some residents who spoke with our reporter, Emelda Ifeme, described the impeachment notice as a major political distraction, accusing the State House of Assembly of showing little regard for Governor Fubara and the overall interest of the state.
Reacting to the development, the immediate past Commissioner for Environment, Tambari Sydney, expressed surprise at the lawmakers’ action. He called on members of the House of Assembly to place peace and development above personal or political interests.
Tambari Sydney further stated that, to the best of his knowledge, Governor Fubara has not breached any law that would justify the issuance of a fresh impeachment notice, urging restraint and dialogue in resolving the ongoing political tensions.
