Today marks exactly four months since President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The action, taken on March 18, 2025, came in response to reports of widespread pipeline vandalism allegedly carried out by militants. The presidency accused the state government of failing to act, prompting a sweeping political suspension.
In a nationwide broadcast that evening, President Tinubu announced the immediate suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial six-month period.
He subsequently appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas as sole administrator of the state.
Four months into the emergency rule, residents of Port Harcourt and surrounding communities have expressed growing frustration, citing poor communication, restricted governance, and deteriorating living conditions.
