Five people, including three men and two women, have been reported killed in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local government Area of Plateau State. The victims were allegedly slaughtered on their way to the market by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The incident happened just as a group of angry youth marched on the streets of the state capital, Jos, in protest over recurring violent attacks in parts of the state. The killings have been particularly intense in villages in Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas, for which the protesters want the authorities to put a halt. The protesters carried placards marked with different inscriptions as they marched through the Old Airport Road to the Plateau State House of Assembly to register their complaint.
Responding to the protesters; the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, PETER AZI assured that the security concerns were being addressed by the authorities.
The protesters also marched to the Plateau State Government House where Governor LALONG announced that more detachment of mobile policemen has been deployed to the troubled areas.
