FG Says Nigeria Needs $345m Annually to Reintegrate 15 Million Out-of-School Children

The Federal Government has said Nigeria requires an annual investment of 345 million dollars to effectively reintegrate and provide essential skills to about 15 million out-of-school children across the country. 📚

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Tuesday during the inaugural Federal Ministry of Education Private Sector Breakfast Convening held in Lagos.

According to the minister, the 345 million dollars estimate is based on current per capita spending needed to address the educational and skills requirements of children currently outside the formal school system.

Alausa further revealed that about 25 per cent of children aged between five and 14 years are out of school nationwide. He added that the situation is more severe in the North-East and North-West regions, where the figure rises to 41 per cent.

The minister emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to mobilize resources, expand access to education, and implement targeted interventions aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children.
