The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and rescued a 35-year-old woman abducted in Port Harcourt.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the victim was kidnapped on July 11 while attending to customers at her shop before being forced into a white tinted mini-bus by armed men.
She said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
The suspects identified as Owhor Chinedu, 42, Isioto Waribok, 30, Maduabuchi Emeka, 34, and Joe Karachi, 28, were arrested during the operation, while the white mini-bus allegedly used for the abduction was recovered.
According to the statement, the suspects have confessed to their individual roles in the crime during preliminary investigations.
The Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest two other members of the gang who remain at large and recover the firearms allegedly used in carrying out the operation.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations.
