FCCPC Warns Inter-City Transport Operators Against Arbitrary Fare Hikes

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has warned inter-city road transport operators against arbitrary and unexplained fare increases during the ongoing yuletide travel period.

In a statement signed by the Commission’s Corporate Affairs Director, Ondaje Ijagwu, the FCCPC said the caution follows a surge in consumer complaints from different parts of the country regarding sudden fare hikes.

While acknowledging that seasonal demand, operational pressures, and other legitimate cost factors may influence transport pricing, the Commission stressed that consumers are entitled to clear, accurate, and timely information on fares before travel.

The FCCPC called on transport operators to adhere to fair pricing practices and ensure transparency to protect the interests of commuters during the festive season.
