Floodwater has submerged farmlands and cut off residents of Ula-Ekata in Upata Kingdom, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, from other parts of the state.
The Chief of the community, Chief Clement Onyiri, disclosed this in an interview, saying residents are finding it increasingly difficult to survive as the flood continues to disrupt their daily lives.
Onyiri, who identified farming as the community’s major source of livelihood, lamented that the rising waters had not only cut off the community but also destroyed farmlands and farm produce.
He said the development had worsened the hardship facing residents, with food reserves significantly depleted and almost exhausted.
The community leader appealed to the government at all levels to urgently provide relief materials to the affected residents to prevent further hardship and a possible food crisis.
He urged relevant authorities to act swiftly, stressing that the people of Ula-Ekata are in urgent need of assistance as the flood continues to threaten their livelihoods and wellbeing.
