Former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s directive transferring VIP protection duties from the Nigeria Police Force to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Ejiofor, a respected security expert, said that while the directive may be well-intentioned, it presents significant operational challenges for the NSCDC. He argued that the corps lacks both the manpower and the specialised training required to handle such a sensitive national security responsibility.
He warned that assigning VIP protection to an agency not adequately equipped for the task could expose high-profile individuals to greater security risks and strain the corps beyond its current capacity.
