The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday arraigned former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwarimpa over an alleged N2.2bn fraud.
Ngige was brought before the court on an eight-count charge bordering on abuse of office and awarding contracts to companies linked to his associates during his time supervising the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.
The EFCC alleged that the former minister approved consultancy, training and supply contracts running into hundreds of millions of naira without following due process. He was also accused of receiving financial benefits from some of the companies involved.
Ngige is expected to enter his plea as the case proceeds. The court session continues later today.
