Over the weekend, Rivers United were thrashed four nil by Sudanese side, Al Merreikh despite enjoying a comfortable three nil win in the first leg a week ago in Port Harcourt.
The result means Rivers United are eliminated on a 4-3 aggregate score-line.
The other Nigerian side in the Champions League, Rangers was equally ousted from the competition after defeating Zamalek of Egypt 2-1 in Enugu.
The Nigeria Professional Football League champions had lost the reverse fixture 4-1, exiting the competition 5-3 on aggregate.
Correspondent EMEKA DENNAR reports that both Rangers International and Rivers United will now drop down to the CAF Confederations Cup, the second-tier club competition on the continent.
