Criticism Trails Appointment of Boards, Parastatals in Rivers State

As political uncertainty lingers in Rivers State, Sole Administrator retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas is facing criticism over the composition of various boards and parastatals in the state.

The appointments come just a month and three days before the expiration of the State of Emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu.

Former spokesperson of the Civil Society Organisations in Rivers State, Solomon Lenu, described the move as an affront to the people, suggesting that the Sole Administrator may be acting on a pre-determined script.

President of the South-South Youth Initiative, Imeabe Saviour Oscar, accused the Minister of the FCT of turning Rivers State into a personal enterprise and called on those concerned about the state’s future to resist what he termed ongoing illegality.

National Legal Adviser of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Henry Ekine, stressed that no executive power can override the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
