A Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the deregistration of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, by the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC.
The court also dissolved the Interim Management Committee established by the commission to oversee the affairs of the youth organisation.
The CAC had withdrawn the council’s certificate of registration in October 2025 and derecognised the National Executive Committee led by Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, citing alleged violations of corporate governance regulations and the council’s constitution.
Delivering judgment, Justice Binta Nyako ruled that the commission acted beyond its powers by deregistering the organisation and appointing an interim committee while the matter was pending before the court.
The judge described the action as unlawful and an interference with judicial authority, noting that the CAC lacks the power to determine leadership disputes within the council.
The court subsequently ordered the immediate restoration of the NYCN’s registration and recognised the Sukubo-led executive as the legitimate leadership of the organisation.
