Court Awards Widow ₦200 Million Over Unlawful Killing of Husband by Policeman

The Federal High Court in Abuja has awarded ₦200 million in damages to the widow of Kabiru Babai, a truck driver who was unlawfully killed by a police sergeant in Osun State in 2021.

The court held that the killing was unlawful and ruled in favour of the deceased’s widow, ordering the payment of compensation for the violation of her late husband’s fundamental rights.

The judgment underscores the judiciary’s commitment to holding security personnel accountable for unlawful actions and reinforces the constitutional protection of the right to life and the rights of victims’ families to seek justice.
