Commercial transport activities have been paralysed in parts of the Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt, as soldiers take control of the Rumuokoro axis in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. Our correspondent reports that the Nigerian Army deployed soldiers around Rumuokoro in a bid to stop a planned protest over the killing of a commercial bus driver.
Our correspondent gathered that the slain bus driver was driving against traffic when he encountered security operatives, which led to a scuffle, during which gunshots were fired.
Commercial vehicles have been avoiding the Rumuokoro area, forcing commuters to resort to trekking long distances to get to their destinations.
Also, passersby are forced to raise their hands as they approach the soldiers stationed around the Rumuokoro roundabout.
