CJN to Swear In 57 New Senior Advocates as Supreme Court Marks New Legal Year

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Monday, September 29, swear in 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs). The swearing-in ceremony forms part of activities marking the commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year of the Supreme Court.

The event is scheduled to hold at the main courtroom of the apex court in Abuja and is expected to draw attendance from leading members of the Bench and Bar, top government officials, and representatives of professional bodies in the justice sector.

The elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is regarded as the highest recognition for legal practitioners in the country. It is conferred on lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the practice of law, with outstanding contributions to the development of the legal profession.

This year’s list, approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), includes advocates drawn from both the private and public bar, with special emphasis on merit, integrity, and excellence.

The ceremony will also feature the traditional address by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, during which she is expected to review the performance of the judiciary in the past year, highlight key challenges, and set the agenda for the new legal year.
