Broos Blames South Africa’s World Cup Exit on Lack of Speed, Power

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has attributed his side’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup to a lack of speed and physical power following their 1-0 defeat to Canada in the Round of 32.

Broos said his players struggled to match the pace and physical intensity of the Canadians, adding that the difference in athleticism proved decisive in the knockout encounter. He noted that his team lacked the power and speed needed to compete at the highest level.

Despite the defeat, the Belgian tactician praised his players for exceeding expectations by reaching the knockout stage of the tournament, describing the campaign as a significant achievement for South African football.

South Africa’s World Cup journey ended after Stephen Eustaquio scored a stoppage-time winner to send Canada into the Round of 16.
