Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN said the terrorists stormed the troops’ location at about 5PM last Friday with motorcycles bearing Improvised Explosive Devices, Anti-Aircraft Guns and other weapons.
The Army spokesman said after about five hours of exchange of gunfire, the terrorists were overwhelmed by the firepower of government troops.
He said before the end of the battle, a suicide bomber with the terrorists detonated himself at a gun truck, killing the driver and the gunner.
The Army spokesman said the truck and the mounted weapon were also damaged beyond repairs.
Colonel SANI USMAN said two soldiers were also wounded in action, while three others sustained minor injuries.
Colonel USMAN also confirmed that sixteen of the terrorists were killed while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
USMAN said troops have also discovered and safely detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices that were planted along Gomboru-Rann road.
