Barcelona’s Nou Camp Return Delayed as Council Rejects Permit

Barcelona’s long-awaited return to the Nou Camp has been further delayed after the city council rejected the club’s request for an essential permit on Tuesday.

The La Liga champions had hoped to host Real Sociedad at the iconic ground on Sunday, with a reduced capacity of 27,000, as renovation work continues.

Instead, the fixture will now be staged at the 55,000-seater Olympic Stadium on Montjuïc hill, where Barça have played their home matches for the past two seasons.

Earlier this campaign, Barcelona hosted Valencia and Getafe at the 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff Stadium, the home ground of their women’s team, due to ongoing construction at the Nou Camp.
