the Federal Government has appealed to ASUU to suspend its industrial action in the interest of the nation.
The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Doctor CHRIS NGIGE observed that ASUU did not follow due process in the declaration of the strike.Doctor NGIGE said ASUU did not give the Federal Government the mandatory fifteen days notice before embarking on the strike.
The Minister, who was speaking on a live television programme monitored from Port Harcourt, appealed to the striking lecturers to return to the negotiation table, stressing that all necessary steps for a fruitful dialogue had been put in place.
He said the lecturers should do so in the interest of students who are currently writing degree and promotion examinations.
Doctor NGIGE recalled that the Federal Government had on 13th February this year set up a committee to address the issues underlying the ASUU agitation.
