The amended law empowers the State Governor to appoint anyone into local government caretaker committees as often as he pleases, without tenure limits as had been the case before now.

The Rivers APC also criticised the governor over a purported boast that his recent presence in Edo State intimidate his counterpart, Governor ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE, leading to the postponement of the governorship election in that state.
