Alliance for Credible Elections Faults Senate’s Revised Position on Real-Time Result Transmission

The Senate has bowed to nationwide pressure to rescind its earlier stance on the real-time electronic transmission of election results, announcing a revised proposal that prioritizes electronic uploading while retaining manual collation where internet connectivity fails.

Under the new arrangement, electronic transmission will serve as the primary method of uploading results, while Form EC8A will remain the fallback instrument for result collation in areas without network access. Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed the decision of the Upper Chamber following deliberations.

Reacting to the development, the Alliance for Credible Elections insisted that Nigerians demand full real-time transmission of election results without alternatives. The group’s General Secretary, MMA Odi, who spoke shortly after Tuesday’s Senate session, warned that civil society organisations could call for the resignation of the Senate President if the Senate fails to meet public expectations.

Meanwhile, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi urged Nigerians to resist what he described as impunity by the All Progressives Congress-led government, alleging that the Tinubu administration is indifferent to the plight of ordinary citizens.
