The newly formed twenty-five thousand-strong multinational standby force of the African Union has begun training for the first time. The military drills are taking place in South Africa with the aim to make sure the force is ready for deployment by January to crises areas across the continent The African Union Standby Force is to be made up of five brigades from Africa’s economic blocs. The main objective is to free Africa from over reliance on the outside world in peacekeeping across the continent.
