A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has freed the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, NNMADI KANU.
Justice ADENIYI ADEMOLA ordered the release of NNAMDI KANU, a day after the Wuse Magistrate Court dropped the case filed against him by the Department of State Services.Justice ADEMOLA declared that KANU was yet to be charged by the DSS on alleged suspicion of terrorism, adding that perhaps, the secret police lacked the required materials prosecute the Radio Biafra director. The Judge further declared that detaining the IPOB leader without charge since October was contrary to the provisions of the constitution.Justice ADEMOLA therefore set aside an earlier order for the DSS detain NNAMDI KANU for ninety days and ordered his unconditional release. Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the DSS did not bring NNAMDI KANU to court today when the order was made.
You will recall that the DSS had earlier declined to act on the bail granted the IPOB leader by the Magistrate Court, but instead went ahead to procure an order from the Federal High Court to detain the man for ninety days.
