The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has commended senators who opposed the petition by Rivers senators against the nomination of former governor, ROTIMI AMAECHI, for appointment as a minister. State Publicity Secretary of the APC, CHRIS FINEBONE, said it was a relief that Senator GEORGE SEKIBO finally exposed himself as the person behind the production of one hundred and sixteen CDs titled “Rivers of Corruption” for distribution to the Senators in the National Assembly. You will recall that three senators representing Rivers State in the National Assembly yesterday submitted a petition against the nomination of former governor, ROTIMI AMAECHI for appointment as a minister.
The petition emanates from an organization that goes by the name Integrity Group, and led by LIVINGSTON WECHIE. Allegations made in the petition against AMAECHI include corruption, criminal breach of trust, unlawful enrichment and conversion of over seventy billion naira. Our correspondent, JAMES IGAH reports that the petition was submitted by Senator GEORGE THOMSON SEKIBO of Rivers East Senatorial District, on behalf of his colleagues.
However; the submission of the petition by Rivers State Senators was interrupted by senators of the All Progressives Congress who strongly kicked against the move.
Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI, had to intervene and referred the petition to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges in spite of the objection by the APC senators
