The Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States wants its jurisdiction to be expanded to enable it to adjudicate on cases of crimes committed within the sub-region.
President of the court, Justice MARIA MONTEIRO, who made the call in Abuja, stressed the need for the establishment of effective cross-border networks of police and judicial cooperation among ECOWAS member states to check crimes and terrorism.
Justice MONTEIRO, who described terrorism as an integral part of organized crime, said the ECOWAS Court would help to defend human rights in West Africa in the face of growing threats of organized crime.
