Hearing continues today at the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja, as the defence by Governor NYESOME WIKE enters a third day.
During the proceedings yesterday; four subpoenaed witnesses testified as voters, including a legal practitioner, OMELEYE CHARLES who gave evidence based on his observation at Ward 13, Unit One in Abonema, Akoku Toru Local Government Area.
NKPANG NENE INGONIKON also appeared before the tribunal to testify about voting procedures in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, but refused to read out some documents presented as exhibit during cross-examination by the petitioners’ counsel.
Another subpoenaed witness who identified himself as Pastor NWANKWO said he voted in Unit Seven, Ward 12 in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
All four witnesses today affirmed that they arrived at their various polling units early and electoral officials also reported for duty with materials, including card readers, voters register, result sheets and ballot boxes.
They said the card readers worked perfectly and the PDP was declared winner of the election at the end of voting at their various units.
After the sitting; counsel to the second respondent, OKEY WALI said more witnesses are still on the list to testify on the conduct of governorship election in Rivers State.
Reacting to the proceedings in court; PDP counsel, GODDY UCHE said the beauty of what happened before the tribunal is that the witnesses were all subpoenaed by the court.
On his part; counsel to the petitioners, AKIN OLUJIMI said the latest witnesses are worse than the previous set of persons called in the defence.
Hearing continues tomorrow in the petition filed by the APC and its governorship candidate in Rivers State, DAKUKU PETERSIDE, challenging the election victory of Governor NYESOM WIKE.
The Governor who is the second respondent has four more days to conclude his defence.
