President MUHAMMADU BUHARI is travelling to France today on the invitation of his French counterpart, FRANCOIS HOLLANDE. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam GARBA SHEHU, joined the President’s advance team that arrived in Paris yesterday.
In a statement; SHEHU said both leaders are to hold a meeting at the Elysse Palace in the course of the three-day visit to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations between Nigeria and France in areas of defence, security, trade and investments.
While in France, President BUHARI will visit the Headquarters of France’s largest federation of investors and employers, where he will participate in a France/Nigeria Investment Forum with leading Nigerian and French entrepreneurs. President BUHARI and his team will also confer with the French Minister of Defence, JEAN-YVES LE DRIAN, the French Minister of Finance and Public Accounts, MICHEL SAPIN, and the French Minister of Economy and Industry. A separate statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, said President BUHARI will travel with the National Security Adviser; retired Major-General BABAGANA MONGUNO. Other members of the presidential entourage are the Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Ministries of Defence, Finance, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, Industry, Trade and Investment. The Chief Executives of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council will also accompany President BUHARI to France. The delegation is expected back in Abuja on Wednesday.
Also President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has reaffirmed the total commitment of his administration to the rule of law. President BUHARI also warned that proven acts of human rights violation by the Armed Forces would be punished under his leadership.
The President was speaking in Kaduna over the weekend during the passing out parade of troops and newly commissioned cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy. President BUHARI reminded them that the rule of law applies to the Armed Forces as much as any other institution in the country. He maintained that security remains the most important challenge in the “Change” Programme of his Administration. The President said what is expected of officers and men of the Armed Forces at all times and in all situations is exemplary conduct and professionalism.
