The Nigerian Army says it has uncovered a plot involving local and foreign organizations that is intended to undermine the military operation against Boko Haram insurgents in the north-east of the country.
The Nigerian Army said information at its disposal indicates that some unnamed foreign media, civil society and non-governmental organizations are working in collaboration with their Nigerian affiliates in a bid to making false claims of alleged human rights violations by the Army. According to a statement released by the Acting Director of Public Relations of the Nigerian Army, Colonel SANI USMAN, the groups of people involved in the alleged scheme are not happy with the progress made on the anti-insurgency operations. The statement noted that the implication of such act is not lost on the Nigerian Army, as it was capable of thwarting the gains in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
It noted that the groups of persons identified as unscrupulous elements are far less concern about the general well-being of our citizens, and are driven by material and pecuniary gains. The statement concluded by stressing that the Nigerian Army would not succumb to blackmail and neither would it be distracted from its determined effort of defend the territorial integrity of the nation and safeguard the security of citizens.
