Senate not comfortable with Presidency rejection of Bills.

The Senate was notified about the development through four letters from the Acting President, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO to the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI.

The bills include the Dangerous Drugs Amendment Bill, which the Acting President withheld assent due to concerns about the use of words and phrases as well as the intention of the amendment.

Professor OSINBAJO also declined assent to the National Lottery Bill on grounds of pending legal issues on the competence of the National Assembly’s powers to legislate on the subject.

The Agricultural Guaranteed Credit Scheme Fund Amendment Bill and the Currency Conversion Freezing Orders Bill were also not signed by the Acting President.

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that an attempt by Senator BINO MELAYE of the APC from Kogi State to raise a petition on the decline of assent to the bills was wave aside.
