Immediate-past Governor of Rivers State, ROTIMI AMAECHI has debunked claims that he emptied the state government’s treasury before the inauguration of the present administration of NYESOM WIKE. In a statement released by his Media Office, AMAECHI noted that his administration left at least seven-point-five billion naira in cash for the present administration.
AMAECHI emphasised that part of the balance which were the state’s internally generated revenue account was lodged with Skye bank.
Also, the statement revealed that part of the cash which were allocations from the Federal Accounts and Allocation Committee was deposited with Zenith Bank and Access Bank, as well as the state reserve fund account in Firstbank.
Also, the former governor noted that other balances in the state government house account were with Zenith bank while other government Ministries, Departments and Agencies had their separate accounts.
He said this amount which includes funds in the Bureau for Public Procurement pushes the cash reserve to between eight and ten billion naira as at May 29th. The former governor criticised Governor WIKE for taking a loan of thirty billion naira from commercial banks, saying the loan was needless.
The statement stressed that assets are scattered in diverse sectors of the economy which were developed or built or procured with revenue that accrued to the state during AMAECHI’S tenure.
It said the assets belong to Rivers State, not AMAECHI, adding that the assets are presently yielding revenue to the state coffers, and many can be easily and readily converted to cash, if the State so desires.
