The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, has cautioned residents against accepting money or food items in exchange for their votes in the 2027 general elections.
Pidomson, in a message to Rivers people, said exchanging votes for immediate financial or material benefits could undermine the state’s long-term development and welfare.
He argued that accepting money and rice from politicians in exchange for votes could worsen economic hardship, making it more difficult for families to provide food, pay school fees and meet housing costs.
The ADC candidate also warned that poor political choices could have implications for access to quality education and healthcare, while increasing the vulnerability of citizens to insecurity and other social challenges.
Pidomson urged voters to protect their right to participate freely in elections and demand accountability from political leaders, rather than becoming dependent on politicians for basic needs.
He also criticised what he described as political efforts to suppress the voices of Rivers people, alleging that a small group of individuals was exercising undue control over the state.
The ADC candidate called on Rivers residents to use their votes to resist what he described as attempts to undermine their future, while also urging them to continue praying for the state and its people.
